Carpenter Park

Carpenter Park is located on the west side of Coit Road north of Spring Creek Pkwy in Plano, TX.

The City of Plano Parks & Recreation Department wanted the trapezoidal drainage channel to be transformed into something more aesthetically pleasing while still complying with the engineering department's drainage standards.

We designed and modeled the transformation of approximately 1,500' of trapezoidal drainage channel into a series of ponds. The design constraints included an existing sanitary sewer that crossed underneath the channel, existing storm sewer discharge headwalls that tied into the channel, a NTMWD water transmission line at the downstream end of the park, the city's desire for a pedestrian bridge to cross the stream and no rise in water surface at the upstream property line.

We were able to accommodate all of these design constraints and still provide three (3) on-stream ponds with different normal pool elevations that created the "water fall" look that the city liked.

The project also involved designing an on-stream trash collection system to prevent "float-ables" from moving downstream. This was composed of a floating barrier system that trapped the float-ables while not adding any resistance to the hydraulic model.

After the construction was complete, a LOMR report was prepared to update the FEMA map accordingly.
